December 2001

Tap dancing is lost art. It seems to have gone the way of the dodo.

The reason I bring this up was that I recently saw a production of 42nd Street with my family. It was a magnificent performance. The music was great, the songs were recognizable and man, could that ensemble dance. I had nothing but this huge grin the entire time.

The Ford Center for the Performing Arts was a nice little place. It wasn’t too big, and we had good seats, even though they were in the balcony.

Ok, this is coming out a little incoherent. I had in my mind this entire entry planned out on my trip home from the city, but it’s turning into a stream of consciousness kind of thing. So I’ll just end it here, and rework it tomorrow when I’m more awake.

I had all these great plans for this website. I had dreams of cool scripting and sugar plum fairies dancing in my head. If you having noticed, the URL for the splash and opening pages reads …/summer01/…

I had all the intentions in the world when I first designed the site of keeping the design and content dynamic, adding lots of pages, making design changes once a quarter or so. Well, that never materialized and it took me months before I even put up a page of content beyond this blog. There lies a lot of my problems.

I am a meticulous planner. However, therein lies the problem. I may a lot of plans. I plan a lot of things. Most of those plans never really see fruition. There a lot of reasons for this, but that doesn’t bother me really. I just tend never to actually set out to exectute my plans. Call me lazy.

Anyways, the point I wanted to make was that I had planned on making some major revisions to this site while I was home in NY. I figured I would have plenty of time to work on it, but boy was I wrong. I’ve been out and about almost constantly which isn’t a bad thing but any stretch of the imagination. With the show tomorrow, New Years on Monday, the earliest I may get to work on the page would be Tuesday, assuming I don’t get ensnared with Pudup and Laura’s gift like I did this afternoon/evening. I’ve taken a whole bunch of pictures with my digital camera…I’d have even more if I didn’t accidentally format my memory stick. Yes, I know I’m an idiot.

I will give an account of what I’ve done since I’ve been home. I will also finish off the previous entry. And, as an early New Year’s resolution, I will post more often, instead of disappearing for weeks at a time.

I actually wrote this a few days ago, but haven’t had the time to post it. I don’t think it’s done, but who knows when I’ll get around to finishing it.

First off, apologies go off to all of you who have been wondering what’s been going on with me over the last few weeks. I know, I tease you with a few daily entries and then disappear for weeks. So, here’s a small update on things that have been going on with me.

The new apartment is just about finished. It’s to the point where it actually looks like a place where someone can live in, without random stuff on the floors and boxes strewn everywhere. It’s really painfully obvious to me that I need to acquire more furniture, as my living room is devout of anything in its center. I figure that a few more pieces of furniture and everything should be set. A coffee table, an end table and a nice, recliner would do nicely.

I am currently now sitting on a 737 on my way into New York for the holidays. I am extremely excited to be seeing my family again and to see my friends whom I have not seen in months. Plus, coming back to New York was especially important this year, after the tragedies that have befallen the city over the last few months. I guess the attacks hit particularly close to home, and I do have plans to see the ruins downtown. Looking out my window I can only guess that I am currently somewhere over Pennsylvania, as we had passed Chicago a while ago. I should be landing in about 20 minutes or so.

The holiday season has always been special to me. It’s a time where people can reflect upon their lives, assess their experiences and relationships over the past year and gear up for the upcoming year. Yes, I am aware that the beginning of a new year is something completely arbitrary, but there needs to be a marker.

As I started earlier, I am particularly excited to be seeing my family this holiday. My parents are doing well, and my aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. are good too. One person will probably be missing from our celebration though. My aunt was recently shipped out last Monday to fulfill her roles as an Air Force Major reservist. She’s an R.N. who was sent to Texas. Where she’s going after that, I do not know. But she was told to make preparations for the next year, so I have a sinking feeling she will be over in the Middle East, attending to our soldiers. I pray for her safety and God Speed to her.

Sorry I haven’t written much lately. I just moved and I’ve been taking care of stuff regarding that. I’m also leaving on vacation at the end of this week, so expect posts to be sporatic. I promise to do better next year.

I mean it too.

I miss you Sarah.
