Well, today is February 14th, so that must mean one thing. Today is Valentine’s Day. A day to celebrate love; a day to celebrate the people to mean the most to you. It is also the perfect example of blatant overcommercialization, and just a way for florists to get rid of roses and flowers, which would otherwise die in the cold, bleak winter. Very much similar to the way that Daylight Saving’s time was invented to stop people from having to buy more candles, Valentine’s Day was cooked up by some struggling merchants as a way to clear out idling merchantise.
Do I sound bitter? I didn’t mean to, really. In fact, the idea of Valentine’s Day very much appeals to me. It sounds like a great idea, but it was never something significant to me. Even when I was seeing someone around Valentine’s, I never really got into the whole gift-buying, gift-giving spirit. A few words of kindness were enough for me.
I had almost forgotten that today was Valentine’s Day. It didn’t occur to me until I came into the office and saw some notes on my desk. One was signed Cupid with some candy in it and the other signed by a name I can’t read. I have no clue who they’re from, but I see other desks with them, so I will not put any more thought into it.
So looks like the trip to LA is on. I made a few CDs for my drive and ordered a few which should arrive today. I just hope this cold goes away.
