Coming back from the Napa valley two weeks ago, I was a little disappointed. Not because I didn’t have a good time or pick up some bottles of stellar 1998 Sanguivese. No, because I didn’t come back with a hunk of old moldy cheese.
On the way up, we stopped at V. Sattui for lunch and lo and behold I saw it. Sitting in the cheese display of the deli there it was. Yes, I’m talking about a hunk of French Roquefort. A steal at only $19.99 a found, I’ve seen it go for almost $30. I wanted it and I had to have it. One minor problem though. We didn’t bring a cooler or any type of refridgeration. But I was promised we’d stop by on the way out to pick it up.
Well, needless to say, we never did stop back. We were running a little behind schedule, having to meet up with Stan in SF for dinner. I was sad, like I had lost an opportunity to meet up with an old friend. But this sadness would not last long.
After randomly running into Nic and Lori over at Le Boulanger and spending some time having breakfast and coffee, I headed over to Trader Joe’s to do some food shopping and lo and behold, there it was in the cheese section. It was odd that I had never noticed it before, since I frequently shop there. I had a weird craving for some sharp cheddar, since the night before I was craving some cheese and crackers to go along with my Cabernet Sauvingon and I had remembered seeing some aged vermont cheddar in that section. Didn’t find it, but I found my precious instead.
So tonight will be the great unwrapping. I have some cracked pepper crackers to go along with my exquisite find. I am a happy man ![]()
