ok, so my chili didn’t win any prizes at the cookoff. but i did get a lot of positive comments about it and a lot of votes in the people’s choice category. jan was awesome as my barker and as the namer of the chili, which was called “dragon’s lair chili”

not sure who’s brilliant idea it was to hold the chili cookoff on ash wednesday. oh wait, i was at that meeting. oops. totally dropped the ball on that one. at least jan and i were able to sample roy’s veggie chili and steve’s vegan chili. i don’t think it’s agreeing with me tho. could be the fact that i haven’t eaten like anything today. the next few hours are gonna be tough.

well, today marks the beginning of the lenten season, where we prepare ourselves to celebrate easter in april. it’s a day of fast and abstinence (hence hungry jeffy). this season for lent i’m gonna give up coffee, fried foods and other things which won’t be named here. i think the coffee is gonna be the hardest, but i will have to manage with tea.

the tradition of giving something up for lent comes from the desire to rid oneself of something unnecessary, possibly a food or a bad habit. it is also a start in changing your life, if only in one way for 40 days. it’s also a time to examine our lives and see if there’s something that needs to change.

change, change, change

some people fear change. i’ll admit that at times i’m one of those people. i like what is comfortable, i like what i know. but it’s stupid for me to think that i can always keep things the same. i know from experience that it’s impossible, that God or mother nature will throw a monkey wrench into the system to shake things up (like a salt-shaka!!!). you gotta be ready for it. yeah, being ready for the unknown seems like the world’s dumbest statement, but it’s true. and you probably already know what i mean. i’ll tell you right now what i wish i could change. the day. why? then i can eat.

man, am i hungry…
