September 2004

looks like i’m going to be in NH after all, just a week later than i expected…

i have mixed feelings about this trip. on one hand, i need one more trip before the end of the year to get my premier status for United for next year. i’ll also be going with joe and meeting up with allen so that’ll be a nice change from traveling alone. joe and i are planning on hitting up cr sparks in bedford (along with pam, if she wants to join us). i’m hoping to have some time to head down to boston to meet up with sarah as well.

on the other hand, my classes are all starting to gear up. there’s a monthly leadership meeting scheduled at my house for tuesday which i’m going to be forced to cancel unless we find an alternative location. i’m going to miss my ILM class on wednesday. with a paper due in a few weeks and only 5 classes in this sessions, it’s going to be a challenge. my house is a mess again and i want to start my fall planting for next year. and it’s always hard to find people to come take care of the kitties when i have to travel for more than 2 days.

but it’s all part of the job, right?

this program has been one of the more frustrating and at times, annoying that i’ve worked on. we’re essentially a sustainment program (though management refuses to call it that) so there’s really no new development. the only thing that i enjoy about it is the people. i’ve been tempted to leave the program a few times, but i said i’d give it to the end of the year and then reassess.

but yay for frequent flier programs. now if there was only a direct flight from san jose to jfk on united…

soaking in a warm tub sipping chardonnay, listening to sarah mcL. and reading some steinbeck is an amazing way to end two wonderful days. being completely sore and exhausted tomorrow is an unfortunate consequence…

but i will leave you with this:

Rays of Sunlight

it’s raining out…

hasn’t rained since…april? may? dunno…been so long i can’t remember…

sarah: that sucks
me: yeah, i know :(
me: i traded sipping apple martinis in a swank restaurant in manchester for the high desert
sarah: SWANK
sarah: in NEW HAMPSHIRE
sarah: ;)
sarah: excuse you
me: from what i’ve been told :)
sarah: you traded me for the desert
me: that too

it’s been a crazy couple of days to be sure and finally things are calm once again. so what’s happened?

well, it was a short work week for me, since monday was a holday, friday a normal day off and thursday a day off i took to have an air conditioner installed in my house. yes, that’s right. no more listening to me bitch about how hot it is in my house. i’ve finally joined the rest of civilized society :)

went to pick up my sis on thursday and we pretty much just hung out at the house and watched the pats game. she knows i can’t stand the pats but i was a good sport about it :-P friday, it felt like we spent the entire day in my car with a long drive up to napa and an even longer drive stuck in traffic on the way back. but it was a nice trip. we started at sterling and on the way we both realized we forgot our cameras. oh well. we had lunch at v. sattui and ended the day at bv. in the end, we bought something like 22 bottles of wine, only 9 of which were mine.

saturday was the previously mentioned company picnic down in santa cruz. my sis and i made our appearance right as the food was being served and i won some free passes to laser tag in the raffle. which was cool, but i wanted the 17″ LCD TV which was the grand prize. doh… we left around 2.30pm (or so) and headed to my cousins’ new house to celebrate my aunt’s birthday. then we went to my other cousins’ new house and hung out for a while. that was pretty cool.

my sis left butt-early sunday morning so i took her to the airport at 5am and came home and went back to sleep. woke up at like 8.30am and did my normal sunday routine. at youth group we had a discussion/debate on friendship & betraying a confidence if a friend had a drinking problem. somehow the conversation migrated to suicide and i think we had a great talk. i really like the group of teens that we have had the last few weeks and i’m looking forward to this upcoming year.

so what’s on the plate for the upcoming weeks? wednesday is the first day of ILM which is something that i’m strangely looking forward to. the weekend of the 24th my cousin and i are going to take a photographic field excursion. not sure where yet, but prolly something like point reyes for our first trip. hopefully it’ll be the first of many to come :)

october is even crazier, but i’ll deal with it when it comes. oi, i should get back to cleaning the house…

i’ve been stuck in a rut here at work for the last few weeks. it’s not that i don’t have stuff to do, it’s just that none of the work i have is exciting or new or even remotely challenging. i’m bored and i find myself spending more and more time working on other activities. i have my manuals that i should be working on but i’ve done all i’ve can for now. i’m supposed to be taking snapshot data from a test set but i’m waiting on security to approve the paperwork and allow me to move it to and fro. i think that fact that it’s a short week (especially since i’m taking tomorrow off) doesn’t help the situation much either.

ugh, i’m tired. it was another hot evening last night made even hotter by the 15 or so people i had crammed into my house for our team meeting. only a few people got lost (mandy was horribly confused) and i had plenty of food so it went well. thankfully we were downstairs were it was cooler, but it was still 82 degrees when i finally got to sleep. only cooled down to 78 degrees when i left this morning :(
